9.24.010 Discharging pistol or firearm within the townsite service area.
A. It is unlawful for any person to fire or discharge, within the limits of the townsite service area, any pistol, gun, rifle, air rifle, or other firearm, other than a police officer in the lawful performance of the officer’s duty.
B. Notwithstanding subsection (A) of this section, it is not unlawful to discharge a firearm at a rifle range, target shooting range, trap shooting range, or other area that is posted for such purpose; providing, that the chief of police has approved the area as being safe for such purpose; and providing, that such shooting is adequately supervised and safely conducted.
C. In addition, migratory water fowl may be hunted in the area identified on the most current map on display in the clerk’s office and determined by the following boundaries:
1. South of the Haines Highway between the airport and Wellfield Road continuing along the property line of parcel C-HY-01-0120;
2. North of the Chilkat River, east of the airport;
3. East of the airport between the Chilkat River and the Haines Highway; and
4. West of Wellfield Road between the Chilkat River and the Haines Highway.
When actively engaged in hunting activities, hunters shall remain 200 yards south of a line running roughly east and west from the east end of Runway 08 of the Haines airport. (Ord. 07-12-174 § 4)
